Youngstown Municipal Court Judge Renee DiSalvo has found enough evidence to let a grand jury decide if a 21-year-old man should go on trial for a fatal shooting on the city’s Southside.

After hearing testimony from investigators and witnesses on Thursday, the murder case of Vashaud May was bound over to the Mahoning County Grand Jury.

May is accused of killing 24-year-old Rawsheem Aponte in April of 2022. Police say May chased Aponte while driving in the 3800 Block of Mohawk Avenue. Dozens of rounds were allegedly fired killing Aponte, as well as wounding two others including a toddler.

U.S. Marshalls recently arrested May in New Hope, Minnesota.

May remains held in the Mahoning County Jail on a $1 million bond.
