A former East Liverpool police officer has pled guilty to sending inappropriate material to a student back in 2020.

According to court documents, former officer Shawn Long entered a guilty plea of one count of Disseminating Matter Harmful to Juveniles.

The charge stems from an incident in March of 2020 where according to a secret indictment, Long sent inappropriate messages to a 17-year-old student during his time as a school resource officer for East Liverpool City Schools.

Long had resigned from the police department in 2021 amid an investigation into these matters. He was on paid administrative leave for just under a year prior to that.

Long is scheduled to be sentenced on January 15 in the Columbiana County Court of Common Pleas.
