A Grove City Borough council member is free on $100,000 bond following accusations that he tried to force a nine-year-old girl to perform sex acts.

Forty-nine-year-old Shawn Patrick Myers was arraigned Wednesday on charges of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, corruption of minors, disseminating explicit sexual material with a minor, and endangering the welfare of children.

Acting on a tip from the Pennsylvania Child Line System, police say the alleged crimes occurred as a relative of Myers had been babysitting the alleged victim several times at Myer’s North Broad Street home and office.

The child told police that sometimes she would go into Myer’s office to see his aquarium.

Myers allegedly showed a pornographic cell phone video to the child and asked her to perform oral sex on him. The child told investigators that Meyers used honey to encourage her to perform the sex act. The girl also claims that Myers gave her gifts.

The alleged crimes happened between 2019 and this past February when the child was dropped off at Myer’s home for babysitting.

The child’s mother told investigators that her daughter would sometimes stay at Meyer’s home for several days and some weekends while she was at work.

The third ward representative is scheduled to start his fourth, four-year council term in February.

Borough manager Vance Oakes tells 21 News that Myers didn’t attend Monday’s council meeting. If Myers fails to attend the January 3 council meeting to be sworn in, he won’t be able to take office for his next term, according to Oakes.

District Magistrate Douglas Straub has scheduled a January 10 preliminary hearing for Myers.
