A mother continues to mourn after her 15 year old son Devon Biggs, a former Lordstown student, was struck by a vehicle on his way home from track practice.

Back in May, in Columbus, 33 year old Dionta Winer, was trying to give her infant a pacifier in the back seat, but when she turned back around to face the road, traffic had come to an abrupt halt.

Winer swerved off of the road trying to prevent a car collision but instead, hit and killed Biggs who was standing near a cross walk.

"When I'm in the car I cry, when I'm at home I cry, you just never know when it's gonna hit you," said Michele Biggs, Devon's mother.

Biggs tells 21 News Reporter Sydney Canty that wasn't enough.

"Since it wasn't aggravated, meaning it was an accident, she killed someone accidentally and she gets away with it," said Biggs. "Our justice system did not serve justice today," she said.

Biggs says she'll lobby legislators to change the law so justice is served properly and another family doesn't have to hurt.

"He was sweet, he loved everybody, had the biggest heart, he was goofy all the time, he always had a smile, he was always willing to help somebody," Biggs said.

Biggs says she has a message for all drivers on the road.

"I just want people to pay attention when they're driving," said Biggs. "I just...I need people to see how serious it is and it doesn't matter if you've been driving for a month or for 26 years," she said.
