The West Virginia Department of Transportation closed the Jennings Randolph Bridge, which is part of US Route 30 in both directions in East Liverpool on Monday.
WVDOT closed the bridge for emergency repairs, according to its post on the social media app X, formerly known as Twitter.
According to Amanda McFarland, Public Information Officer for the Ohio Department, the bridge repair is West Virginia's responsibility for fixing, but ODOT has set up a detour.
The official detour from the East Liverpool bridge into Chester, W.Va., is to take State Route 7 South to Steubenville, get on US Route 22 East towards US Route 376 North to US Route 30... a nearly one-and-a-half hour detour.
The other option is to take the privately owned Newell Bridge, which was renamed the Wayne Six toll bridge this past summer.
W. Virginia DOT recommends taking State Route 7 to US 22 East, to Weirton, and suggests local traffic can take WV State Route 2 South from Chester to Weirton, which is approximately one hour to complete.
The road is expected to be closed for at least three weeks, according to WVDOT.
