The suspect in the murder of a 15-year-old girl in Youngstown back in April of 2023 has pled guilty to multiple charges in court on Monday.

According to Mahoning County Prosecutor, Gina DeGenova, 21-year-old Saun Peterson pled guilty to charges of felonious assault, involuntary manslaughter, improper handling of firearms in a motor vehicle, obstructing official business and a five-year gun specification.

The charges stem from the April 15 murder of 15-year-old Amya Monserrat of Youngstown during a sweet 16 party at Martha's Boulevard Tavern on Southern Boulevard.

Police say a fight broke out at the party eventually leading to shots being fired with Monserrat getting caught in the crossfire. The incident was classified as a "drive-by shooting."

Peterson is one of two people charged in the case with the other being Legend Pless, who was 16 years old at the time of the murder.

Pless is charged with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder. His next hearing is December 4 at 10:00 a.m. in the Mahoning County Juvenile Court.

DeGenova says no sentencing date has been scheduled for Peterson at this time, but does tell us Monserrat's family and law enforcement approved of Peterson's plea.
