Youngstown native and football coach Mark Stoops has been involved in speculation over the weekend after reports that Texas A&M had been in contact with him about becoming the university's next head coach.

Stoops is currently the head coach at the University of Kentucky, a position he's held since November 2012.

Without naming Texas A&M specifically, Stoops posted on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, saying he had been contacted this weekend about a potential opportunity.

ESPN's Pete Thamel reported Texas A&M will not be hiring Stoops after firing coach Jimbo Fisher on November 12.

Stoops has the most wins in Kentucky football history, compiling a record of 73-64. He's also won four bowl games as the leader of the Wildcats.

Prior to his time at Kentucky, he served as defensive backs coach at the University of Miami and as defensive coordinator at the University of Arizona and Florida State.

The Cardinal Mooney graduate is part of the Stoops family of football coaches which includes former Oklahoma and current XFL head coach Bob Stoops, former Arizona head coach Mike Stoops, and former YSU assistant Ron Stoops Jr.
