Campbell woman accused of starting large fight, man accused of stabbing woman in back
Two suspects are currently in jail after police say a woman started a large fight outside of an apartment and a man allegedly stabbed that woman in the back during that fight Wednesday night.
According to a police report from Campbell PD, police were dispatched to an apartment on the 100 Block of Jackson Street shortly before 9:30 p.m. in response to a reported stabbing incident.
Upon arrival police observed several women who appeared to be "visibly intoxicated." One of these women, identified as 25-year-old Justine Johnston told police she was stabbed by a man, later identified as 38-year-old Elias Vega.
Police observed several wounds as well as a bite mark on Johnston's back.
Police say information was hard to obtain from those at the scene due to yelling and alleged intoxication, but were able to gather than Vega was staying in a nearby apartment.
Officers went to Vega's apartment and commanded him to exit, but police say he refused so officers had to force entry and place him under arrest.
After searching around the area of the apartments, police were able to find several black hair extensions, as well as the suspect knife on the sidewalk and in the street.
One of the women at the scene told police that Johnston approached her mother outside of one of the apartments and began striking her and pulling her hair. From there, several others joined the fight according to the report.
The woman told police that Vega eventually got involved in the fight, striking, wrestling and biting Johnston before eventually stabbing her while others held her down.
Police say all attackers fled the scene once police sirens were heard.
Both Vega and Johnston were transported to the hospital by EMTs. While in the process of clearing the scene, police were called to the intersection of Wilson Avenue and 4th Street because Johnston had allegedly jumped out of the back of the ambulance.
When officers arrived at this scene, police say Johnston was yelling and making incoherent statements due to her alleged intoxication. One of the EMTs also told police that Johnston had become aggressive with her pointing her finger in her face and yelling at her.
Johnston allegedly told police that she still wanted to go to the hospital but was still being verbally aggressive and refusing to get back in the ambulance.
After getting back in the ambulance, police say Johnston continuously refused to allow EMTs to put her seatbelt on, and when an EMT tried to put it on for her she allegedly smacked his hand away.
At this point, Johnston was placed under arrest.
Vega is charged with felonious assault and resisting arrest and Johnston is charged with assault and disorderly conduct. Both were arraigned via video Friday morning in the Campbell Municipal Court.
