Outgoing Campbell Law Director and former Campbell Municipal Court judge candidate Brian Macala pleaded not guilty to theft charges connected to an incident where he allegedly removed a piece of his opponent's political material from a home.

Macala's attorney entered a written not guilty plea, waiving Friday's scheduled hearing on theft charges.

The theft charges stem from an incident where Macala allegedly removed a piece of Campbell Municipal Court judge-elect Mark Kolmacic's political literature from a home and replaced it with one of his own.

The alleged act was recorded on the homeowner's Ring video doorbell.

The doorbell camera video shows Macala allegedly taking a leaflet from the porch and shoving it into his jacket pocket while campaigning at the person's home before replacing it with one of his own.

Macala is nearing the end of his tenure as Campbell Law Director after 23 years.

Kolmacic defeated Macala in the judge race during the November Primary Election receiving 57% of the vote.
