A Warren man is charged with escape after jumping out of a police cruiser following his arrest.

On Tuesday, police were dispatched to an apartment on Robert Avenue. The caller told police that 27-year-old Marcus Hemmingway broke the windows on her vehicle with a cinder block.

Shortly after meeting with the victim, police located Hemmingway on Northwest Blvd. and placed him under arrest.

While transporting Hemmingway to the Trumbull County Jail for booking, the officer driving saw an 'open door' notification on the dashboard of his cruiser.

When the officer pulled over to shut the door, Hemmingway fled from the cruiser stating, "I'm out."

The officer chased Hemmingway on foot toward Belmont Avenue. During the foot chase, the officer noticed Hemmingway slip his hand out of the right side of his handcuffs.

After losing sight of the suspect, the officer heard rustling in some thick vegetation off the 200-block of Belmont Avenue. The officer said he followed the sounds to find Hemmingway sitting in the brush facing toward him. The officer noted that it appeared Hemmingway was still trying to get away from him, so the officer attempted to tase him. The taser was ineffective due to Hemmingway's loose fitting clothes.

While waiting for backup, the officer held Hemmingway at taser point.

Eventually, the officer said Hemmingway began to give up and put his own wrist back in the handcuff he had previously slipped out of.

Hemmingway was arrested and charged with escape, resisting arrest, criminal trespass among other charges related to the initial incident.
