After being delayed five times over nearly two years, Judge Maureen Sweeney has declared a mistrial for the murder of a Mahoning County teenager who hasn’t been seen in fourteen years.

According Mahoning County Assistant Prosecutor Michael Yacovone, the case ran out of jurors in a pool of 50 and the defense requested a mistrial - which Sweeney agreed to.

Fifty-three-year-old Robert Moore of Alliance was already found “not guilty” of aggravated murder in connection with the disappearance of Smith Township teen Glenna Jean White.

Sweeney declared a mistrial in June of last year when the jury hearing the case found Moore "not guilty" of aggravated murder but could not reach a unanimous verdict on the less serious murder count.

The case dates to 2009 when police say the Alliance teen went missing after visiting Moore’s home.

Police said White, then 16 years old, was there to meet a teenage girlfriend, but then left with Moore that night and was never seen again.

Since White has never been found, prosecutors need to convince a jury that White was murdered and that Moore is the person who committed the crime.

Moore has been held in the Mahoning County jail since his arrest in December 2021.

There will be a fifth attempt to seat a jury next year in January, this time with a pool of 75 jurors.
