UPDATE: Smith Township man named as suspect in 'apparent' homicide of Beloit woman
A Smith Township man is sitting in the Mahoning County Jail after being charged with murder.
Nicholas Cunningham, 31, was booked into the jail Friday afternoon after being arrested around 3 p.m.
According to Major Jeff Allen with the Mahoning County Sheriff's Office, these charges are connected to the "apparent" homicide of 44-year-old Gena Wade of Beloit on October 26.
Allen tells 21 News after a two-week investigation, enough evidence was secured to charge Cunningham with the murder.
Information on the case is scarce but Mahoning County Sheriff Jerry Greene confirmed that his office and Smith Township police are investigating. Allen says Canfield, Beaver Township and Milton Township Police Departments all assisted in the investigation.
Along with the murder charge, Cunningham is also facing a count of violating a protection order and aggravated burglary. Employees at the Sebring Municipal Court tell 21 News Cunningham is set for video arraignment on Thursday, November 16.
The investigation is still ongoing.
