Did you see a massive plane flying low above the Valley? You're not alone.

Wednesday afternoon, 21 News received several calls into our newsroom reporting a large, low-flying plane over Youngstown and the surrounding area. We did some digging to find out what was going on.

People across the Valley might be used to seeing C130's flying from the Youngstown Air Reserve Station, but the plane flying around Wednesday is about double the size of a C130.

As it turns out, a C17 plane has travelled this way from the Pittsburgh Air Reserve Station.

2nd Lt. Marjorie Schurr of the United States Air Force issued a statement on behalf of the 911th Airlift Wing, assuring Youngstown residents that there is nothing to be concerned about.

"The 911th Airlift Wing is currently flying a training mission over the Youngstown area. We have strong partnerships with both the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport and the 910th Airlift Wing at Youngstown Air Reserve Station, and we often fly in the area for training. Though the aircraft may seem to be flying very low, this is an optical illusion due to its size, which is far larger than the C-130s the area is used to seeing. Rest assured that this mission is nothing outside of the ordinary and that our pilots are well trained in how to fly and operate the C-17 safely."
