A restaurant that has spent a decade in downtown Girard is closing its doors soon.

Black Horse Tavern on West Liberty Street will close after its Halloween party on October 28.

Owner Randy Emery has been in the restaurant business for 20 years, and has been the proprietor of the Black Horse Tavern for the past 10 years.

Last year, Emery had plans to sell the bar to new owners, but when a new entity took it over, the transition was not so smooth.

After the new owners struggled with taking over the bar, Emery felt the need to came back to give the tavern a proper send off.

"We've had some great years, I've done my time, it's not an easy business, I did what I could do, with a lot of help from some great people," said Black Horse Tavern Owner Randy Emery.

Emery says that he plans to retire and spend time with his family.

"It's been a great run, I appreciate everyone's well wishes for me, and I plan on doing a lot of fishing," said Emery.

The tavern is not currently up for sale, Emery owns the building, and says that the process of selling the bar is on the back burner right now, and will take place down the road.

Black Horse Tavern will be open for the next two weekends on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays with a limited menu.
