The first statistics on the deer hunt in Mill Creek MetroParks have been released.
According to data from Mill Creek MetroParks, 38 deer were harvested between October 1 and October 10 during the controlled hunting part of the deer management program.
Of the 38 deer killed, 28 were does, five were button bucks and five were antlered deer.
All deer were killed with either a crossbow or longbow, but it's unclear which area of Mill Creek MetroParks the kills occurred.
However, Mill Creek MetroParks officials say hunters have been successful in the following areas:
- Collier Preserve
- Hitchcock Woods
- Huntington Woods
- MetroParks Farm
- Mill Creek Wildlife Sanctuary
- Sawmill Creek Preserve
- Vickers Nature Preserve
The controlled hunt is being done to reduce the deer population after the park's data showed an average of 387 deer per square mile within the park.
