In Decision 2024 news, Robert F Kennedy, Jr says he is abandoning his bid for the Democratic presidential nomination and will instead run as an independent.
How might this effect the race as a whole? 21 News spoke with a professor of political science from the University of Akron to find out.

Robert F Kennedy claims there is corruption in the leadership of the big two political parties so he is going independent. It's a move that experts believe will raise the chances of him playing spoiler in the 2024 election.

"Going back to President Kennedy and Senator Robert Kennedy, Ted Kennedy. It's a beloved name in Democratic politics so the thinking was originally, this was definitely going to hurt Joe Biden," said Dr. David Cohen, politicial science professor at Akron.

But many are now thinking that Kennedy's move could hurt the Republicans as his politics seem to align more with conservative causes

"Because even a swing of just a few thousand votes in a battleground state can make the difference between winning and losing. We saw that in 2016 when Jill Stein a green party candidate won a number of votes in Wisconsin, Michigan and in PA which paved the way for Trump to win those states," added Cohen.

But the Biden campaign could also see a future spoiler as Cornell West is expected to also run as an independent, a move that experts believe will siphon votes from far left voters.
