88.5 WYSU-FM is holding a fundraiser event all throughout the month of October.

The public radio service of Youngstown State University is hosting a donor and membership awareness campaign to help raise money for the station.

The theme for the station's month-long fundraiser is 'Getting There Together' which will encourage listeners to make online donations to support WYSU's service of news and informational programs, as well as classical and jazz music.

WYSU director Gary Sexton is also bringing back his running challenge, where he plans to run 1 mile every weekday hour from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. all throughout the month of October.

That adds up to 1 mile each hour for 9 hours over 22 weekdays, for a total of 198 miles, plus an additional 2 miles to get to 200 miles. Sexton is hoping for donations for every mile he runs.

Sexton chooses to run to to demonstrate how "little bits" when added together go a long way; emphasizing that listener contributions to WYSU, no matter the size, will go a long way when added to all the other contributions.

Last year, Sexton challenged himself to run 88.5 miles to support WYSU, and overcame that goal by running 89 miles in under 24 hours during the One Day at the Fair 24-Hour Race in New Jersey in October of 2022.

In 2022, Sexton was able to get over 100 listeners to sponsor him before the race, generating over $20,000 in public support for the station.
