Eviction notice leads to hour-long standoff in Niles, suspect subdued
An eviction notice led to a brief standoff early Thursday afternoon at a Niles home.
According to Niles Police Captain John Marshall, the incident happened at a home on Spruce Street shortly after 11:00 am Thursday.
Niles Police Chief, Jay Holland tells 21 News the Niles Municipal Court Bailiff showed up at the home to serve an eviction notice, but the suspect, identified as 44-year-old Adam Boggs would not cooperate.
Eventually, Niles Police were called to the scene and Chief Holland tells us that Boggs had a knife and was threatening officers. Eventually, officers gained entry to the home and subdued Boggs with pepper spray according to Chief Holland.
Boggs was removed from the home without further incident, and is being treated for pepper spray exposure before being transported to the Trumbull County Jail.
We're told the standoff lasted for about one hour and 14 minutes and the scene is now cleared.
