A nurse accused of driving the car involved in a hit-and-run that claimed the life of a Lowellville woman appeared in a Nashville, Tennessee courtroom on Wednesday to answer charges handed up by a grand jury.

Police say 24-year-old Julia Naldjian was driving the Alfa Romeo sedan that struck and killed 61-year-old Amelia Lamping of Lowellville as she was walking along a crosswalk in Nashville on October 27 of last year. Lamping died later at a hospital.

The damaged Alfa Romeo was found the following day abandoned about 3 miles from the accident scene.

Police say they have information that Naldjian had been drinking at a bar prior to the collision.

Naldjian is charged with vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of a fatal accident, failing to give aid, and failing to file a police report.

According to her obituary, Amelia Lamping was a graduate of Poland Seminary High School and Youngstown State University. She had four children and two grandchildren.
