Newton Falls mayor resigns, takes job in Juvenile corrections

Newton Falls Mayor Ken Kline has announced his resignation effective tomorrow, Sept. 12.
While he may be leaving office, that doesn't mean he plans to stop serving the community.
According to a statement sent out to residents of Newton Falls, Kline says he received a job opportunity that he couldn't pass up, which will be a role with the Juvenile Justice Center. He did not tell 21 News which center or what county, though he says its not in Trumbull County.
"I'm still going to serve my community and serve my state" Kline tells 21 News.
Kline states that according to the Ohio Revised Code, he is not allowed to hold a political office at his new role, which is why he resigned from his position.
Kline tells 21 News that the pay rate and benefits made him reconsider his service to the city.
"My family will always come first and I had to make the difficult decision of resigning my position as your mayor," Kline said in the statement. "The last 4 years as your mayor have been quite a ride. We have had ups, and we have had downs, but I have enjoyed every single day of serving you as your mayor."
Kline says he has notified the Trumbull County Board of Elections he will not be running for re-election.
The most recent council meeting had to be adjourned and the Trumbull County Sheriff's Office was called.
