A Niles man is facing charges after police say he broke into a home with eight juveniles inside.

According to a police report from Niles PD, police were dispatched to a home on the 30 block of Beaver Avenue for a burglary call shortly before 12:30 a.m. Sunday.

Upon arrival, police located the suspect, later identified as 19-year-old James Long on the porch and placed him under arrest.

Officers then spoke with the homeowner, who told police that he was in bed with his wife when one of his kids came up and told him that someone was in the house.

Police say the homeowner and Long met near the stairs and began fighting one another until officers arrived at the scene. According to a CAD sheet, Long was allegedly under the influence and stating that he wanted to be shot.

Police say eight juveniles between the ages of six and 16 years old were in the house at the time of the incident.

Long is charged with one count of burglary and is scheduled to be arraigned in the Niles Municipal Court on Tuesday, September 5 at 8:30 a.m.
