Mercer County mom accused of selling drugs that caused deadly overdose
A Mercer County mother of two faces three felony charges for allegedly providing the drugs that caused the death of a Transfer, Pennsylvania man.
According to a criminal complaint, police were called to a Delaware Township home this past February after a woman found the body of her 37-year-old son in the basement. A canister of white powder and a straw were found nearby.
The county coroner has since determined that the man had died from an overdose of Fentanyl and Xylazine.
The man’s father told police that he had dropped his son off a few hours before at a friend’s house on Walnut Street in Sharpsville. The son told his father that he planned to walk from the friend’s house to a Narcotics Anonymous meeting.
Police questioned the woman at the home where officers say she lives with her two children. Police say they later recovered phone messages indicating that the victim paid the woman $60 for opiates.
The woman, 48-year-old Melody Lynn Taylor has been charged with drug delivery resulting in death, delivery of a controlled substance, and criminal use of a communication facility.
Taylor, who is free on a $50,000 bond, is scheduled to appear before a district magistrate next month.
