A spokesperson for the Youngstown Education Association tells 21 News that contract negotiations are scheduled to resume on Wednesday.

The YEA's Jim Courim says talks will continue at 1 p.m. at East High School, adding that additional discussions are set to take place at 10 a.m. on Thursday and Friday if needed.

Teachers hit the picket lines last Wednesday, forcing the Youngstown City Schools to begin the school year with remote learning.

School administrators have failed to force teachers back to work when the State Employment Relations Board declined to declare the strike illegal.

The YEA says a major issue for its 450 members is their request that the school board remove contract language about the Academic Distress Commission.

The strikers have garnered support from both sides of the political aisle, including Republican State Senator Michael Rulli and Democrat U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown.
