Panerathon 2023: What you need to know
It's been a staple in downtown Youngstown since 2009 and it's back for yet another year. Panerathon 2023 kicks off in downtown Youngstown on Sunday, August 27.
People from all corners of the Valley have gathered to help fund the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center.
The race starts Sunday with registration opening at 8:00 a.m. the 10K run/walk starting at 10:00 a.m. and the the two-mile run/walk starting at 10:05 a.m.
The maps for both of these courses are pictured below.
Youngstown's Deputy Director of Public Works, Chuck Shasho tells us most of the roads in the downtown area aside from one block are now open.
"Front Street is open [and] Commerce Street is generally open except for one block. The only areas that are being worked on right now are Federal Street and some minor work on Rayen Avenue," Shasho said.
Closures in Mill Creek Park will be in place from 8 am to 12 noon on Sunday, August 27th. Closures apply to vehicles, bicycles, pedestrians, and all other non-marathon travel.
The following roads will be affected:
• Price Road
• Price Road entrance of Fellows Riverside Gardens
• West Glacier Drive
• West Drive
• Slippery Rock Bridge
• Bottom of Birch Hill Drive to West Drive (access to Birch Hill Cabin and Lily Pond from McCollum & Wilkinson)
According to Panerathon's website, there will be no parking directly at the Covelli Centre. Instead, there will be several surface lots and parking garages within walking distance of the Covelli Centre.
Handicapped parking will be available in the nearest lot to the Covelli Centre and handicapped drop-off will also be available at the Covelli Centre entrance.
It's going to be great running weather. Temperatures will be in the mid-60s during the start of the event, with just a few clouds around. Skies will be mostly sunny by the middle of the day, with high temperatures reaching the mid-70s.
