The Mahoning County Coroner has released the name of the male victim of a homicide on Youngstown's north side.

According to a press release, 26-year-old Troy Adkins was killed in a homicide that happened just after 2:30 a.m. Saturday on New York Avenue near the intersection with Kensington Avenue.

According to a release from YPD, they responded in the early hours of August 26th to calls of an African American male "who was shot and laying in the grass of a vacant lot."

When officers arrived, they found a 26-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body. When EMTs arrived, they declared the victim dead at the scene.

Detectives, the coroner, and the Crime Scene Unit of YPD were on scene processing the incident. No suspects have been identified, and no arrests have been made at this time.

An autopsy has been conducted and the incident remains under investigation by the Mahoning County Coroner and YPD.

This is the 9th homicide in Youngstown in 2023 and the first since August 9.
