James Todd Viele, known better in the valley as Jerry Starr, passed away on Tuesday, August 22nd aged 81 years old.

According to his obituary from Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home, he "passed away peacefully" at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren.

Born in 1942 in Franklin, PA, Viele was perhaps best known for his time as a DJ at two popular valley radio stations, first at WHOT and then later at a station of his own creation, 101.1 WSRD "The Wizard," one of the valley's most popular classic rock stations.

According to his obituary, he was also a member of several radio clubs and associations, and honored in the Broadcasters Hall of Fame.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie L. Hammond, one daughter, Jamie Moon, and two grandchildren, Bailey and Hunter. He also leaves behind a sister, Marcia Morelli.

Per Viele's wishes, he was cremated and no services will be held.
