Darlington man accused of attempting to fight Austintown police officers during OVI arrest
A Darlington man is accused of attempting to fight police after being placed under arrest for OVI in Austintown Sunday morning.
According to a police report, police observed a Ford truck traveling at a high rate of speed in the center turning lane on South Racoon Road near Wedgewood Drive shortly before 3:00 a.m.
Police conducted a traffic stop and began to speak with the driver, identified as 24-year-old Cody Bouzek of Darlington, Pennsylvania. Police say when Bouzek provided police with his license and proof of insurance, he appeared to be impaired and showed compromised motor skills.
Police asked Bouzek to perform standard field sobriety tests, which police say he initially agreed to, but refused just before they began.
When officers tried to place Bouzek under arrest, police say he continuously refused to comply with orders and eventually tried to kick and punch officers before being tazed.
Once booked, police say Bouzek was still uncooperative and refused to take a breathalyzer test or any other sobriety test offered to him.
He is charged with OVI, assault on a peace officer and resisting arrest. He was arraigned in court on Monday and is set for trial on September 13 in the Austintown Municipal Court.
