Niles mother sentenced to one year in prison for OVI-related crash that injured teen

A Niles mother was handed her sentence in court Monday morning on charges related to a crash that injured her 14-year-old teen.
Forty-nine-year-old Jennifer Zurick was sentenced to one year in prison followed by a minimum of one year of parole with a maximum of three years. Once out of prison, Zurick must also put OVI license plate on her vehicle.
According to court records, Zurick was charged with Aggravated Vehicular Assault, and OVI.
The charges stem from a crash that occurred on North Road at Sunnybrook Drive in Howland back in November of 2022.
According to a police report, Zurick failed to negotiate a curb striking two mailboxes, a sewer cover, a stop sign and a utility pole at a high rate of speed.
All the while, Zurick's children, aged 14 and 15 respectively, along with her 22-year-old son were in the car with her. The 14-year-old was taken to the hospital with a lacerated liver and spleen.
Police found 11 empty 50ml containers of Fireball Whiskey in the front seat of the vehicle.
