Alleged shoplifting leads to robbery charge against Boardman man carrying concealed weapon

Carrying a concealed weapon while shoplifting can result in a more serious charge even if you have a CCW permit.
Boardman Police arrested a 43-year-old township man on Saturday after security at the Meijer store alleged that he didn’t scan all his groceries at the self-checkout, attempting to leave with $183 worth of items he allegedly didn’t pay for.
According to the police report, when Gerald Quaranta was arrested he had a Glock 19 concealed in a holster inside his waistband. The weapon contained a full magazine, but no round in the chamber.
Police say Quaranta was cooperative and apologetic, telling the loss prevention employee that he had his CCW permit and was carrying the gun.
Quaranta was handcuffed and booked into the county jail on a felony robbery charge for alleged larceny while armed with a deadly weapon.
The weapon was turned over to a family member.
