One of Youngstown's oldest family-owned businesses will soon be expanding by opening its doors at a new location in Boardman.

According to a Facebook post from the company, Zabel's Restaurant Equipment & Supply will be opening a new location in Boardman in the fall of 2023. 

21 News caught up with Zabel's Senior Project Manager, Lee Zabel who tells 21 News while the business is expanding into Boardman, the Youngstown location is not going anywhere.

The new location will be on South Avenue right next to Sam's Club. Zabel tells us this location was chosen due to the amount of retail traffic it gets, as well as convenience for customers.

"We like this location because our customers could go to Sam's Club for their food products, and then come to our store for all their tabletop items," Zabel said.

In addition, the Boardman location will be open later than the Youngstown one, with hours being Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The Youngstown location closes at 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday and is closed on Saturdays.

The Boardman location will be about the same size as the Youngstown one with both being about 10,000 square feet of nothing but showroom. The Youngstown location has an additional 40,000 square feet of warehouse where the company receives product. 

Zabel's has quite the history in the Valley with Zabel telling us the business has been operating since 1900.

"I believe we're the oldest family-owned business still open in Youngstown," Zabel said.

Zabel's started on East Federal Street near where the Youngstown post office is currently. In 1966, Zabel's moved to its current location at 645, Market Street. 

If you're looking for a job with Zabel's the Facebook post states that the Boardman location is looking to hire a part time sales representative.

The hours for this position will be Monday through Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., excluding holidays as well as Saturday mornings excluding holidays. Benefits include 401k and paid time off.
