Dead fish found in Leslie Run Creek in East Palestine
People in East Palestine are saying they are seeing dead fish again in Leslie Run Creek. This comes six months after the Norfolk Southern train derailment.
Resident of the village Dr. Rick Tsai, says he found dead fish in the creek on Aug. 7.
"[I found] possibly hundreds of dead fish, cray fish, everything in that creek side was dead," Tsai told 21 News.
Independent analyst Dr. David Kaplan, says despite cleanups from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), its possible for chemicals to settle into the soil and flow into the water stream.
Another independent expert Dr. Andrew Whelton, says the dead fish could have suffocated because of low oxygen in the water and could be related to the summer heat. Another possibility could be from fish being exposed to chemicals for a long period of time, according to Whelton.
EPA officials say they are looking into this incident.
