Dog owners and their show dogs come from all over the country to show off at the 40th annual Steel Valley Cluster Dog Show at the Canfield Fairgrounds.

Dedicated show dog owners are sparing no expense to keep their canines in top notch condition.

Bill and Alexis Heath are natives of California and they travel around the country showcasing their Golden Retriever, Sydney. The couple says they invest hundreds, sometimes thousands of dollars for specialized training and lavish grooming.

"For a four day show it could be anywhere from $75 to $150 a day, to have a handler." Heath told 21 News, adding "My wife has an array pf scissors, razors, shavers. We have a cabinet full of leashes and leads."

Chris Schriber says preparing her white terrier for shows is a full time job.

"You've got vet bills, you've got food bills, you've got some personal training," Schriber said.

Some of the show dogs require specific diets tailored to their individual needs, which can increase the owners yearly expenses.

"One of my older champions eats only fish. And then I have two younger ones now that can't eat fish and they have to have chicken. It's just shopping for everybody." Schriber told 21 News.

The Steel Valley Cluster Dog Show is at the Canfield Fairgrounds from Aug. 3-6 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
