Campbell police need help with severe animal abuse case
Campbell police officer Joe Conroy
On Saturday, July 22, Campbell police were called out to 643 Matawan Avenue for a report of a dead dog in a dumpster. When officers arrived, they did find a dumpster in the driveway and a dead dog inside with a shower curtain wrapped around it.
A worker, who had been hired to empty the trash and other debris from inside the home, told officers he found the dog inside the dumpster when he arrived for the day.
Upon closer observation, the officer could see that the dog's bones were visible through its skin and appeared in poor condition. The dog's remains were preserved and transported to a local veterinary clinic for a necropsy. A necropsy is the examination of the carcass of an animal to determine the cause of death.
According to Campbell officer Joe Conroy, this 37 pound brindle female suffered a great deal for a long time.
The necropsy report shows that the dog was severely emaciated with a condition score of 1 out of 5 which is the worse score. There was a combination of undigested underwear and rope material found in her stomach. In the intestinal tract, there was also foreign material of various rope and leash ultimately causing her death. That rope material caused severe dehydration, anorexia and eventual death.
Campbell police is asking anyone who may have information regarding this dog's death to email Officer Conroy at [email protected] or call 330-755-1451 and hit option 3, then the prompt for the mayor's office.
