A Youngstown man is spending part of his 31st birthday in a courtroom where he entered guilty pleas in connection with the death of a man on the city's Southside.
Timothy Underwood was scheduled to go on trial Monday in connection with the death of 27-year-old Marquis Lewis, whose body was found on the bathroom floor of a home on November 22, 2021. Reports said Lewis had blood coming from his head when EMS arrived.
Underwood avoided trial by pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter, burglary, and a firearm violation. Charges of murder, involuntary manslaughter, and a second burglary count were dismissed.
He could face a sentence of 12 to 16-and-a-half years in prison when he is sentenced later.
