A judge in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court has sentenced a Salineville man to life in prison for murdering a Hanover Township woman.

According to prosecutor Vito Abruzzino, 28-year-old Justin Givens would not be eligible for parole for another 22 years.

Givens pleaded guilty earlier to seven of ten charges handed up by a grand jury following the shooting death of 67-year-old Mary Ann McGuire, whose body was found at her Depot Road home in March of last year.

Givens pleaded guilty to murder with a firearm specification, as well as two counts of grand theft of a firearm, and two counts of tampering with evidence.

Givens, described as the boyfriend of the victim's stepdaughter,  has been held in the county jail on $1 million bail since his arrest in March when he was arrested for having weapons under disability and attempted escape.

Deputies searched Givens' home on Route 644 shortly afterward. According to the Columbiana County coroner, McGuire died from a gunshot wound.

Givens still faces trial on other felony weapons charges, which Abruzzino says could result in a 12-year sentence if convicted.
