Humane agents on scene of 'major' animal hoarding case on Youngstown's east side
Humane agents from Animal Charity and the Mahoning County Dog Warden, as well as Youngstown police officers are currently on the scene removing animals from a home on Youngstown's east side.
Crews are currently at a home on the 2500 block of Rosewood Avenue where crews are reportedly removing hundreds of animals, including dogs, cats, and over 60 snakes, according to Animal Charity Coordinator Jane MacMurchy.
According to a neighbor, the man who lives in the home, identified as Hiram Marion, was arrested on warrants out of Cincinnati and told her to take care of his animals while he was incarcerated.
The neighbor tells 21 News she knew he had all these animals but didn't know of their conditions and that while she wanted to help, she couldn't handle taking care of them, so she called Animal Charity.
Marion (pictured below) is currently in the Mahoning County Jail with a charge of Fugitive From Justice. He was booked on July 14.
Once all animals are removed, the house will be boarded up. MacMurchy tells us the house has already been condemned.
Earlier in July, 21 News reported that Animal Charity was struggling to house animals due to an influx of animal hoarding cases like this one. MacMurchy tells us the shelter is moving desks and offices around to make room for all these animals.
