Two murder suspects were in court Tuesday morning.

Anjuan Whitfield, 18, and Anthony Wilkins, 17, plead not guilty in Mahoning County Court to charges related to the murder of 14-year-old Landon Lockhart in 2021.

Whitfield, who turned 18 three days before his arraignment, and Wilkins, were both bound over from juvenile jail to Mahoning County jail in May, 2023.

Both Whitfield and Wilkins plead not guilty to charges of aggravated murder and having weapons under disability.

Their bonds were set at $500,000.

A third suspect, Elijah Carlisle, was sentenced to four years in the Ohio Department of Youth Services after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter.

Carlisle was charged with being a serious youthful offender and was sentenced to three years for involuntary manslaughter with a gun and three years for a firearm specification.

Lockhart was originally reported missing in November 2021, his body was found by Youngstown detectives in a wooded area off North Truesdale Avenue on the city's east side in January 2022, two months after he went missing.

Six and a half months after Lockhart's body was found, officials arrested Whitfield and Wilkins in June, 2022. They were both charged with aggravated murder with a firearm specification.

Wilkins and Whitfield both had criminal records at the time of their arrests. Wilkins had a felony vandalism, robbery charges and a misdemeanor assault charge. Whitfield also had a vandalism and robbery charge, as well as a felonious assault charge.

Carlisle claims that he, Wilkins, Whitfield and Lockhart drove to a home on the east side of Youngstown in November.  Carlisle also claims that Wilkins, Whitfield and Lockhart all went into the home while Carlisle waited in the car.

Carlisle told the court that minutes later, he heard shots fired and Whitfield and Wilkins came back to the car without Lockhart.

Trial for Wilkins and Whitfield is set for Monday, July 24.
