Charity golf outing for East Palestine raises $400,000 for victims of train derailment
Back in May, global golf icon Annika Sorenstam brought together a team of celebrities, local organizations and donors together for the Annika Fore East Palestine Golf Outing.
Now, the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley has revealed that the event raised $400,000 for those affected by February's train derailment in the village.
The idea for the outing came to be when Sorentam's husband Mike McGee, who is a native of East Palestine and son of local PGA Tour Champion Jerry McGee reached out to former professional football player and Youngstown Native Ed Muranky to hold a fundraiser for the East Palestine Community.
In partnership with The Way Station and the United Way, Annika and the McGees determined the distribution of the funding with a priority of youth sports in East Palestine.
