Trumbull County veteran wins new car
Dwaine Craig, a veteran from Howland Corners, is driving around town in a new car tonight.
He won a 2020 Ford Fusion in the Pillar Automotive Group's Vehicle for a Veteran Giveaway.
"It's like a dream come true, something right now I kind of really needed," Craig said.
Craig was one of 65 veterans nominated to win the car at Salem Chrysler Jeep Ram and the new set of wheels couldn't come at a better time.
"In March, I was in an accident, totaled my vehicle on the way home from work, I work in Pennsylvania as a police officer and I've been sharing the wife's car and it's been tough having to try and find a loaner car just to get back and forth to work so it's a dream come true, it really is," Craig said.
Edward Williams is a partner and CFO at Salem CDJR and a veteran himself. He says the car giveaway campaign is all about showing support for those who served our country.
"I know what it's like to come home after deployment and try to re-integrate into your community with your friends and your family," Williams said. "You've been gone for a year, done things, seen things, been around things that those that you left haven't been and I realized that not everyone is as fortunate as I am and other veterans struggle to make that integration so, we want to help, we want to do our part."
It's a sentiment not lost on Dwaine Craig.
"That they're giving back to you know the men and women who served, some have given all and I think it's an awesome deal that they are doing here," Craig said.
Other prizes and gift bags were raffled off to veterans throughout the night and Williams says this is a campaign they look forward to doing each and every year.
