Man convicted in 1973 East Liverpool double homicide killed in police standoff

Carl S. Gist, 82, was killed by police after a standoff in Weirton, West Virginia on June 24th. However, according to The Intelligencer, this wasn't Gist's first brush with the law.
According to their report, Gist was charged with the 1973 double homicide of his ex-wife and another man in East Liverpool. The report says the murders were committed with a shotgun and handgun.
The standoff in West Virginia happened after Gist shot his neighbor, 62-year-old Cassandra Jeter. When police responded, Gist barricaded himself in the home and refused to surrender to police.
After an hours-long standoff, police deployed gas into Gist's home, forcing him out of the home where he pointed a gun at police, according to the report. Police fatally shot Gist before he could harm any officers.
