Suspect in wounding of Warren 9-year-old indicted on 10 felony counts
Say'Quan Parks has been indicted on 10 felony counts by the Trumbull County Grand Jury, including 7 counts of felonious assault with firearms specification, two counts of improperly discharging a firearm into a habitation, and one felony count of improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle.
Parks pleaded "not guilty" to charges filed in connection with the wounding of a 9-year-old girl as she slept in her home back in June.
Deeming that Say'Quan Parks is a threat to public safety, a judge ordered that Parks remain jailed without bond as he appeared for video arraignment in Warren Municipal Court on Tuesday on charges of felonious assault, obstructing official business, carrying a concealed weapon, and having a weapon while under a disability.
Parks was arrested in June in connection with the wounding of Akasha Taylor-Robinson as she was sleeping on a couch at her family’s Kenilworth Avenue home.
After undergoing surgery, the child is back at home recovering.
During a Tuesday afternoon press conference, Warren Police Captain Ray Massucci says this incident is yet another example of gun violence amongst young people in the city, stating that all suspects are believed to be age 25 and under.
"If the public could just rally around this and stop these kids ... that are using these guns like they're squirt guns. I mean, do they realize what could occur? Yeah, sure you get in a shootout, nothing happens, he doesn't get shot, I don't get shot ... it's not that big of a deal right? Well, now it is," Captain Massucci said.
Warren Mayor, Doug Franklin also echoed this sentiment at the conference as well.
"There's no winners in these situations. You have a family that's traumatized, a young girl that's facing years of trauma during what should be the best years of her life and you have these young people who could be headed to incarceration in their 20s. ... Rethink your lifestyle," Mayor Franklin said.
