Two roller skating championship events will be hitting the Shenango Valley starting June 14.

The Olympic Fun Center in Hermitage will be hosting both the American Roller Sports Association's U.S. Roller Speed Skating Championship and the American Artistic Roller Skating Championship.

The speed skating competition will be held between June 14 and 18 and will feature many accomplished roller skaters from across the country like 2022 Race of Champion winner, Jazzmyn Foster, current world team skaters such as Kelsey Rogers and Jessica Brooks and former world team skaters like Aston Hale, Christian Keesler and Dayton Ristine.

Speed skating is a roller sport where athletes race in a figure circles on inline skates. Skaters must maneuver themselves through the pack of other skaters to get to the winning positon.

The top three or four positions between the ages of 14 and 30 years old will advance to the finals on Saturday where they will compete for the title of 2023 Race of Champions. Prize money for both male and female winners is $5,000.

The public is invited to watch Saturday's competition as well as all events leading up to it. Admission is $5 per person per day. Saturday's race kicks off at 6:00 p.m. Guests can also pay $10 for a two-week pass to both competitions.

During the week, spectators should park in the Shenango Valley Mall. There will be a shuttle service that will take guests to and from the Fun Center, and on Saturday, guests can park at the First National Bank Customer Service Center next door to the Fun Center.

The artistic skating competition will be held between June 27 and July 1.

Artistic skating is like figure skating, but with roller skates instead of ice skates. Performances often feature self-expression through free-flowing movements, costumes, props and music.

Guests are able to park in the Fun Center parking lot for this competition, but the First National Bank lot will still be open during the weekend. A parking map can be found below.
