Man arrested in Howland after leading officers on foot chase
A Warren man was arrested after leading Howland police officers on an extended foot chase early Friday afternoon, according to a report from the Howland Police Department.
The chase, lasting several minutes, ended when officers found the man, identified as Bradley Hartford, 39, of Warren, laying in the grass behind a highway sign.
According to the report, officers were called to the 600 block of Howland Wilson Rd SE for a suspicious activity report. When they arrived on scene, they found a broken down vehicle in the driveway of the caller.
Hartford told officers that he was driving his truck down the road when it overheated and he had to pull off the road to cool it down. When asked for an ID, Hartford presented a state ID card and voluntarily told officers that his license was suspended.
When the responding officer returned to their vehicle to run the ID, they found several warrants for Hartford's arrest.
The officer returned to find Hartford had fled the scene.
In the ensuing chase, officers received multiple reports of a man running across State Route 82, and chased Hartford as he zig-zagged across the highway until another onlooker reported they saw a man laying in the grass behind a highway sign.
Hartford was then found, arrested, and taken to Trumbull County Jail, where he is charged with Obstructing Justice, drug use, operating a vehicle without a license, and several other charges.
