National Institute of Health official to discuss East Palestine derailment impact
A representative from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) will be part of the EPA's weekly community information session Thursday.
Dr. Aubrey Miller, NIH Disaster Research Response Program director, will attend the meeting virtually to give an update on NIH efforts to plan a health research workshop in East Palestine later this summer.
Miller will talk about plans being put in place to work with the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine for the workshop. That workshop will explore the potential of surveillance and research priorities to find short and long-term health impacts connected to the Norfolk Southern train derailment.
The EPA's meeting will take place Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m. at Way Station at First United Presbyterian Church in East Palestine.
EPA officials will also be at the Darlington Days festival with activities for children and educational materials for people.
To date, more than 53,000 tons of solid waste and 19 million gallons of liquid waste have been shipped away from the derailment area.
