A golfer has died at Mill Creek Park Golf Course after a tragic accident around 10:00 a.m.

Boardman Fire Department responded to calls for help after a tree fell on a golf cart.

Officials say two young men were looking for a golf ball near the 17th hole of the golf course when the tree fell.

The tree was around 36 to 40 inches in diameter and caused crushing injuries after falling on the cart.

One golfer died and another was injured.

According to Mill Creek MetroParks Community Engagement Director Jamie Yohman, an unfortunate incident led to the fatality of a golfer.

The park would not release any further information about the incident.

Mill Creek Police were on the scene but also provided no further details.

21 News has requested a copy of the policy on checking trees around the golf course to see if they are healthy, need to be trimmed, or need to be cut down.

We've also asked the Mill Creek MetroParks what safety checks were followed prior to letting others play.

Golfers were back out on the course at noon.

21 News will update this story as more information becomes available.
