Youngstown man enters insanity plea on rape charges in court Tuesday

A Youngstown man entered a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity, charged with five counts of rape and eight counts of gross sexual imposition Tuesday in Mahoning County Municipal Court Monday.
Juan Rivera Jr., 35, was accused of rape on November 24, 2022, and was arrested by the Youngstown Police Department on April 4.
Rivera appeared for the arraignment in Judge Maureen Sweeney's courtroom, where he entered the insanity plea.
Rivera was arraigned in Youngstown Municipal Court in April and is being held in Mahoning County Jail on $1 million.
Rivera is scheduled back in Judge Sweeney's court on June 12.
