Fourteen year-old accused of shooting teen at home in Struthers
A fourteen-year-old boy is in the Mahoning County Juvenile Justice Center accused of shooting a sixteen-year-old boy with a gun the 14-year-old said he stole from his father.
According to Struthers police, the fourteen-year-old told officers late Saturday that he knew the .380 Ruger handgun was loaded when he was pretending to shoot things in the upstairs bedroom of a home on Morrison Street.
However, he says he didn’t know there was a bullet in the chamber when he fired it into the stomach of the 16-year-old in the room.
The 14-year-old told police he took the gun from his father’s home in Negley because he thought it made him "look cool”.
The victim was taken to Mercy Hospital for treatment of an injury that the police report describes as serious.
The 14-year-old will face a hearing in juvenile court to answer a charge of felonious assault.
