Trumbull County Prosecutor, Dennis Watkins has sent a letter to the Ohio Adult Parole Authority expressing opposition to potential parole for a man convicted in a 1988 Warren murder.

Fifty-four-year-old Christopher Daniel was previously convicted of Involuntary Manslaughter, Attempted Murder, Aggravated Burglary and Aggravated Robbery in a 1988 case that resulted in the death of George Melnick and the permanent injury of his wife, Katherine Melnick.

According to Prosecutor Watkins' letter, Daniel was an accomplice of Andre Williams in the attack of the elderly couple in their home. Watkins says Daniel was directly responsible for throwing a brick at Katherine resulting in permanent injury and blindness for her.

Williams was sentenced to death as the killer of George. Daniel was sentenced to 37 to 100 years in prison as an accomplice.

In his letter, Watkins notes Daniel's criminal history and "sociopathic traits" stating that he would "surely be dangerous to the community" if he is released on parole.

Watkins included an excerpt from a recorded statement Daniel had made to an informant days after the crime:

"The window got broke because the [expletive] was standing by the window, it ricocheted off her head and went out the window," Daniel said.

"I just popped that [expletive], [informant's name], right off her head," he continued.

Watkins described Daniel's crimes as "off the charts" and says no punishment could be too great for him.

"100 years is about right. 35 years and counting," Watkins said.
