A local company is expanding access to mental health services in the Mahoning Valley.
Meridian HealthCare has expanded to include locations in Boardman (8255 South Avenue) and Poland (2894 Center Road).
Mental health counseling is available at the Boardman location. The Poland location offers acupuncture, chiropractic and counseling.
According to the release, the company is seeing an increased need for mental health care related to anxiety, depression and other issues in the Mahoning Valley.
A recent report from the Health Policy Institute of Ohio found the statewide rate of depression to be 22%, which is higher than the national average. That same study also found that one in four adults in Ohio said they needed mental health treatment but didn't receive it.
The expansion comes at the same time as National Counseling Month, which is the entire month of April.
“At Meridian, we want to ensure that we have mental health services available to anyone who needs them in the community,” said Lawrence Moliterno, president and CEO of Meridian HealthCare. “We want the Valley to know we are here and look forward to doing what we can to ensure they get the help they need.”
