Hundreds showed up to pay their respects and honor the life of 15-year-old Amya Monserrat at Stambaugh Stadium Wednesday. It began with calling hours at 10 am and then the funeral at noon.

Every uplifting song and emotional embrace was a comfort for those hurting, as this new reality sets in.

"I'm so, so, so heartbroken that this had to happen to her," said Jaismin Morris, Monserrat's mother.

"She was so kind and so beautiful, I love you Mya," said a friend of Monserrat who took to the podium to speak about her.

After a lot of suffering and hardship for those trying to deal with Monserrat's death, there was a glimmer of sunshine through laughter, coming from Morris and Monserrat's grandfather.

"She was just like the perfect daughter," said Morris. Immediately after, Monserrat's grandfather says, jokingly, "No she wasn't," lightning up the room with echoing laughter.

After a few more fond memories, her loved ones released doves in her honor and then wheeled her away to her final resting place with horses and a carriage.
